Movsum Samadov was born in Azerbaijan and grew up in a family that placed importance on education and religious beliefs. He pursued his studies in medicine and Islam attending the Islam University in Iran. Upon completing his education he assumed leadership of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan branch located in Quba.

Movsum Samadov Political Career
Samadov embarked on his journey when he was elected as the head of the Guba branch of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan in 2007. However, his path took a detour when he faced arrest in 2011 on charges, some of which were related to terrorism. Subsequently, he received a prison sentence spanning 12 years.
Reasons behind Movsum Samadovs Arrest and Incarceration?
On January 7 2011 Samadov was apprehended alongside three members affiliated with the party. They were initially sentenced to serve between 10 to 15 days behind bars. However on January 20 2011—the day of his detention—Samadov faced additional charges for “preparing a crime” (Article 28 ACC) and “preparing terrorism committed on preliminary arrangement, by group of persons or an organized criminal group.”
In accordance, with Article 214.2.1 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the preparation of acts of terrorism involving firearms or objects used as weapons and Article 214.2.3 which addresses the purchase, transfer, sale, storage, transportation and possession of firearms, accessories, supplies and explosives by an organized group; along with Article 228.3 concerning actions aimed at seizing or forcibly taking control of power; and Article 278 regarding violent attempts to overthrow the government.
On October 7th, 2011 Samadov was sentenced to a prison term of twelve years, by the Baku Grave Crimes Court.
Samadov’s Life in Prison
During his time behind bars Samadov encountered challenges facing various penalties from the head of Colony. Despite these hardships he continued to educate inmates about practices and eventually got transferred to Gobustan closed prison for the second time.
Movsum Samadov Release from Prison
On January 19 2023, Samadov regained his freedom after completing his sentence. His release was met with embraces from his family and friends who had stood by him throughout his time in confinement.

The viral video shared on X (formerly twitter) of the arrival of Movsum Samadov at the Texas Border in the United States is false. The news of his entry raised concerns and sparked debates regarding his intentions and potential security threats.
Movsum Samadov was mistaken for another person entirely after his release from prison, he has not been seen in the public space.
