Pop Smoke whose real name was Bashar Barakah Jackson, hailed from Brooklyn, New York City. He was born on July 20 1999 but unfortunately passed away on February 19 2020 at the tender age of 20.
Early Life of Pop Smoke
During his years in the Brooklyn Canarsie area, Pop Smoke experienced an educational journey attending nine different schools. He faced expulsion from grade due to bringing a firearm onto school premises.
Pop Smoke was confined to house arrest for two years with an ankle bracelet. Throughout this period he was only attending school while under house arrest helped him attain his diploma.
When he was 15 years old he got a basketball scholarship to a prep school, in Philadelphia. Sadly, his basketball journey ended when he was diagnosed with a heart problem six months into the program.
In an interview with XXL Pop Smoke mentioned that he went back, to Canarsie after this and got involved in street life.
Was Pop Smoke a Muslim?
Yes, Pop Smoke identified as a Muslim. He believed in the existence of one God and that Muhammad was his messenger. It is interesting to note that he didn’t frequently express his faith through his music.
Despite this fact Pop Smoke never publicly renounced his faith. Although some might find it surprising given his nickname if we consider his name it becomes apparent that he did follow the faith.
Pop Smoke’s funeral was performed according to the Islamic rite where Janaza was held at a Mosque in Canarsie.
What led to the death of Pop Smoke?
Tragically on February 19th, 2020 Pop Smoke fell victim to a shooting during a home invasion in Los Angeles.
He was 20 years old when he passed away. The police authorities arrested four teenagers who were allegedly involved in his killing.
