A tragic incident occurred at a wedding hall, in Iraq resulting in the loss of 100 lives and leaving around 100 individuals injured. The unfortunate event took place in the predominantly Christian Hamdaniya area of Nineveh province. Preliminary findings suggest that the cause of the fire was due to fireworks.
The devastating consequences can be attributed to the usage of building materials that are highly flammable and prone to rapid collapse when exposed to fire. In the aftermath, all that remained of the wedding hall was charred debris painting a picture of destruction.
Fortunately both the bride and groom were said to survive the tragic incident. As many of those injured have suffered burns it is anticipated that the death toll may rise further.
The 18-year bride was seen in a recent video wearing a black dress after she lost her father and more of her beloved family members in the fire.
Footage aired by Rudaw, a television news channel depicted fireworks emerging from the floor of the events hall and setting a chandelier ablaze.
Cause Leading to Fire Outbreak
The fire originated from pyrotechnics machines positioned on the floor unleashing cascades of sparks into the air which ignited materials used in constructing the hall. The extensive use of low-cost building materials that are prone to collapse during fires played a role in this tragic disaster. It is worth noting that similar construction practices using panels are prevalent in buildings across Iraq.
Tragically over 100 individuals have lost their lives while 150 others have sustained injuries as a result of a fire outbreak, during a wedding ceremony held in Iraq. The number of casualties is likely to increase as several of those injured burn.
